New generation of
coin counting
technology
July 15, 2020
Company
CTcoin is a Danish company that develops, manufactures, and sells coin-counting products and technologies used in banks and retail stores. Their products are sold in over 50 countries, making them a global leader in coin-counting solutions.
Challenge
CTcoin wanted to develop the next generation of its coin-counting technology. While they had strong in-house software capabilities, they needed external expertise to enhance their electronic hardware and ensure seamless integration between software and hardware. They also needed a solution that was cost-effective without compromising quality.
Solution
CTcoin partnered with EKTOS for their hardware development. EKTOS took responsibility for designing the electronic hardware and hardware-near software layers, while CTcoin focused on the coin-counting software.
This collaborative approach allowed the two teams to work closely, creating a seamless interface between hardware and software. They phased the project, starting with a research phase, followed by product specification and development contracts, allowing for flexibility and adjustments as new information emerged.

Result
EKTOS successfully delivered an optimized hardware solution, including selecting a microprocessor that met CTcoin’s specific needs. The close collaboration between both companies ensured that the project was completed efficiently, with both parties fully integrated as a team.
CTcoin’s CTO, John Frank, praised EKTOS for their talent and cost-effective solutions, stating: “EKTOS has some very talented engineers in Ukraine. We would probably not have found that level of hardware skills elsewhere—certainly not at that price.”
